Borrow Bags........Thursday 1st September 2005
Year 10 Kids from Collingwood Area School spent the day painting the town's "borrow bags", which encourage locals who have not remembered their own shopping bag and need one, to borrow a bag from the retailer and then to take it back.
The "borrow bags" will allow the retailers to offer a reusable cloth bag to forgetful locals and encourage a smooth transition when the town is plastic shopping bag free. The slogans on the bags are all different and are a humourous reminder for the temporary owner to take them back to the retailer. The kids from Years 9 and 10 had great fun in coming up with the slogans; some of the favourites being: "Don't be Slack, Take Me Back" and "You Know I'm not yours, right ?" and "You have used me, now take me back"
There will be 150 cloth borrow bags, donated by the Golden Bay Bag Ladies, which will be presented to the town's retailers on October 4th, the day when Collingwood is declaring itself to be the 1st Town in New Zealand to be plastic shopping bag free. |
